Liquid paraffin 

• Most used lubricant laxative composed of saturated hydrocarbons obtained from petroleum. 
• Has higher efficacy than lactulose and similar efficacy to Magnesium hydroxide.

Milk of Magnesia

• Milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) is an osmotic laxative by which the poorly absorbable magnesium ions cause water to be retained in the intestinal lumen.

• Softens hard stools, improves stool frequency and consistency; could be a promising drug candidate for opioid-induced constipation.
