Omeprazole

Drug Class: Proton-pump inhibitors.

• A proton pump inhibitor that decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach.

• With good tolerability improved symptoms and quality of life more effectively in patients with reflux esophagitis (RE) than in other investigated drugs.

• Superior to famotidine in treating RE symptoms, and also ulcer symptoms, and dysmotility symptoms such as epigastric pain and feeling of fullness in reflux esophagitis.

Domperidone

Drug Class: Anti-emetics

• Domperidone is a unique gastrokinetic and antiemetic drug.

• This peripheral dopamine2-receptor antagonist, regulates the motility of gastric and small intestinal smooth muscle and has favorable effects on the motor function of the esophagus.

• It also has antiemetic activity as a result of the blockade of dopamine receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone.

COMBINATION:

• Omeprazole-domperidone combination was more effective than omeprazole alone in providing complete cupping of reflux symptoms and healing of esophagitis in patients with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease.
