Ceftriaxone

  • Ceftriaxone is a new semisynthetic cephalosporin with broad-spectrum in vitro activity and an unusually long serum half-life.
  • It is a safe and effective antibiotic for therapy of serious bacterial infections.
  • Offers tissue concentration much higher than MIC for many virulent pathogens.1

Tazobactam

  • Helps ceftriaxone in regaining sensitivity against resistant strains
  • Payne et al. reported that tazobactam has greater β lactamases inhibitory activity than sulbactam.2 

Combination

  • The combination of ceftriaxone and tazobactam in the ratio of 8:1 can be an effective treatment to combat extended spectrum beta-lactamase producing E. coli infections.
