Description

• Paracetamol (Acetaminophen)
• An analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory drug that inhibits cyclooxygenase, preventing the synthesis of prostaglandins.

• Caffeine (CNS stimulant of the methylxanthine class) 
• Acts as a mild psycho-stimulant, being able to re-establish the alertness and performance capacity in subjects experiencing fatigue.

Mechanism:

• Caffeine acts as an analgesic adjuvant and enhances the efficacy of paracetamol.

Clinical study examples:

• The combination of paracetamol and caffeine are safe & effective treatments for primary dysmenorrhoea that is characterized by pain, cramping, and backache at the time of menses with no adverse events. 

• Use of acetaminophen and caffeine appears to be effective in achieving good control of acute dental pain compared to placebo and other analgesic medications.
