Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide 10mg + Phenylephrine Hydrochloride 5mg + Chlorpheniramine Maleate 2mg

Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide

Drug Class: Antitussives

  • Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide is a centrally acting antitussive drug.
  • It elevates the threshold for coughing, without inhibiting ciliary activity.
  • The antitussive activity of dextromethorphan lasts for approximately 5-6 hours and has a plasma half-life of 2-4 hours.

Phenylephrine Hydrochloride

Drug Class: Nasal decongestants

  • Phenylephrine as an alpha-agonist is supposed to reduce nasal edema. 
  • It is sympathomimetic medications that cause vasoconstriction of the nasal mucosa.
  • Shown to decrease nasal congestion and increase patency.

Chlorpheniramine maleate

Drug Class: Antihistamines

  • Chlorpheniramine maleate is a stable, most potent, sedative first-generation anti-histamine and is effective in the treatment of allergic disorders.
  • Effective in preventing or reducing the severity of emergence agitation with minimal cardio-respiratory depression.

COMBINATION:

  • A combination of Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide and Chlorpheniramine Maleate is safe as well as efficacious for the treatment of unproductive cough caused due to allergic rhinitis.
